Rendering Unconscious welcomes Leanne B to the podcast!

Leanne B is a clinical psychology PhD Candidate and photographer. Her current project, ‘The Couch’ is aimed at artistically portraying the therapeutic process, while also bringing awareness to mental health treatment.

“My hope for this project is that you will experience the very real fears and beauties that come along with mental health treatment. Self-reflection, self-awareness, and internal healing may logically be understood to be purposeful and curative, but emotionally, the experience can be unbearable. Suffering is involved when re-visiting our past pains, and it takes strength and courage for us to be willing to go there. This project honors all the individuals who have embarked on the treacherous and brave journey of healing. ‘The Couch’ is both a tribute and a documentation of that sacred process.”

Leanne pursued psychoanalytic training at the Psychoanalytic Center of California, and a fellowship with the San Diego Psychoanalytic Center. Leanne is passionate about distilling the stigma of psychoanalysis and making psychoanalytic theory and treatment accessible and understandable to all. Her project, ‘The Couch’ was inspired in part by her own analysis.

As a clinician, Leanne is drawn towards serving the active duty military and veteran community. She is a recipient of the Army Health Professions Scholarship, and has recently been commissioned into the U.S. Army to serve as a clinical psychologist. Leanne is currently completing her internship and post-doctoral residency at Brooke Army Medical Center, where she supports the behavioral health needs of servicemembers and their families. She continues to photograph for her project ‘The Couch,’ from her home in San Antonio, TX.
